Reasons to Cloth Diaper for baby

  • Because fewer chemicals come in contact with baby’s bottom in a cloth diaper, they are much less likely to have issues with diaper rash.

  • Although cloth diapers may cost more to get started the average baby will go through 6-8 diapers per day which can add up to about $0.29 per disposable. Cloth diapers can save you at least $1,000 for the duration your child is in diapers.  Cloth diapers can also be used for the next baby,  which can add up to some major savings.

  • They are easy to use!  Even the poo is easy to get rid of! There are sprayers that attach to the cold water on your toilet and you just spray it off.

  • Cloth diapered babies tend to potty train faster.  This is because disposables have a tendency of feeling dry even when they’re wet so it takes a bit longer for a child to realize what it feels like to be wet.

Reasons to Cloth Diaper for the Environment

  • Cloth diapers don’t take up space in landfills or take hundreds of years to break down.  Disposables are the third largest single-consumer item in landfills and represent 30% of non-bio-degradable waste.

  • One cup of crude oil is used for the plastic in one disposable diaper.

  • Cloth diapers are generally washed with environmentally friendly detergents which leaves less residues on the diapers and less phosphates in our lakes and rivers.

  • Disposable diapers use 20 times more raw materials, 3 times more energy and twice as much water.  There are some that say the water used in washing cloth diapers negates some of the positive effect gained by saving landfill space, but the Real Diaper Association refutes that claim saying that the water used in manufacturing and consumption of disposables is 2.3 times greater than used on cloth.
